China Calls Mideast Situation ‘Critical’ as US-Iran Talks Face Uncertainty

(MENAFN) China has described the current situation in the Middle East as “critical,” as diplomatic efforts continue to arrange another round of US-Iran negotiations hosted in Pakistan.

At a regular briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the region is at a decisive moment, where the conflict could either move toward resolution or further escalation. He emphasized that all parties should show restraint and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions.

Guo called for sustained momentum toward a ceasefire and negotiations, stressing the importance of restoring stability in the Gulf region and ensuring the normal functioning of key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

He also stated that China is prepared to work with the international community to play a constructive role in supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and long-term stability.

The comments come as Pakistan continues mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. Earlier rounds of talks were held in Islamabad following a temporary ceasefire agreement, which is nearing its expiration.

While preparations for a new round of discussions are reportedly underway, uncertainty remains over Iran’s participation. The US delegation is expected to be led by senior officials, as Washington signals reluctance to extend the ceasefire without progress in negotiations.

The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic efforts continuing alongside heightened regional tensions affecting energy routes and security dynamics.
