China, Thailand Set to Conduct Joint Military Exercises

(MENAFN) China and Thailand are set to conduct their eighth iteration of joint military exercises on Thai soil in mid-to-late May, a Chinese defense ministry official confirmed Saturday, underscoring deepening bilateral defense ties between the two nations.

Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, made the announcement at a scheduled press briefing, outlining the scope and objectives of the upcoming drills.

Operating under the theme of "Joint Counter-terrorism Operations in Mountains and Jungles," the exercises will see Chinese and Thai troops form integrated mixed teams, training across a range of specialized combat disciplines — including battlefield casualty care, operational procedures for unmanned equipment, and live-fire shooting exercises.

"Strike 2026" will be the eighth iteration of its kind between the two armies, which aims to continuously deepen bilateral friendship and cooperation, and enhance the troops' capabilities in joint counter-terrorism operations, Jiang added.

The drills reflect an expanding pattern of military collaboration between Beijing and Bangkok, with both nations reinforcing their strategic partnership through increasingly sophisticated joint operational training.
