South Korea Probes Hanwha Aerospace Explosion That Kills Five Workers

(MENAFN) South Korean authorities have launched a joint investigation into an explosion at a Hanwha Aerospace facility after a blast killed five workers and injured two others the previous day, according to reports.

The incident took place at the defense company’s factory in Daejeon, located about 140 kilometers (87 miles) south of Seoul, as stated by reports citing local media.

A coordinated team involving police, fire officials, forensic specialists, labor ministry representatives, and safety inspectors is examining the cause of the explosion, including whether flammable substances were present at the site.

Hanwha officials said the workers had been cleaning propellant powder residue from equipment used in the production of propulsion systems at the time of the blast.

Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon has promised a full investigation into the incident, while police said the structure of the damaged building is stable and not at risk of collapsing.
