Xi Jinping Begins North Korea Visit, Calls for Strengthened Ties
Ahead of his arrival, Xi called for deeper strategic coordination between Beijing and Pyongyang and urged both sides to guide their relations in the “right direction.” He also emphasized maintaining long-standing high-level exchanges between the two governments, describing their relationship as close as “relatives.”
In an article published in North Korea’s official newspaper, Xi stated that “Relations between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea stand at a new historical starting point, facing new development opportunities and shouldering new missions of the times,” referring to North Korea by its official name.
He further noted that both countries should use the 65th anniversary of their Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance as a chance to expand cooperation across party, state, and military channels, implement agreed understandings, and inject renewed momentum into bilateral relations.
