N. Korea Says Denuclearization Position Will Never Change

(MENAFN) North Korea declared Sunday that the question of its denuclearization has been permanently and irrevocably closed, lashing out at recent US-South Korea and US-Japan diplomatic exchanges that dared to revisit the prospect, state media reported.

An unnamed Foreign Ministry spokesperson, quoted by media, issued the sweeping rejection in response to last Thursday's Nuclear Consultative Group meeting in which Washington and Seoul reaffirmed their shared objective of Pyongyang's denuclearization.

"It is an unreasonable talk and fantastic daydream to mention about disarming the other belligerent party's nuclear weapons," the spokesperson said.

The statement went further, dismissing any notion that allied pressure or rhetoric could alter North Korea's standing as a nuclear-armed state.

"The US and its vassal forces' meaningless rhetoric against the DPRK and cooperation in posing a nuclear threat to it can never affect the irreversible position of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state," the spokesperson said. "The 'denuclearization' is an irreversibly finalized matter."

Pyongyang also took direct aim at last week's Extended Deterrence Dialogue between Washington and Tokyo, during which both nations reaffirmed their commitment to the "complete denuclearization" of North Korea — language the regime flatly rejected.

"No matter how hard the US, Japan and the ROK may quibble, they will never change the present position of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state," the spokesperson said — using the acronym for South Korea's official name, the Republic of Korea.

Sunday's declaration marks one of Pyongyang's most categorical repudiations yet of international disarmament efforts, signalling that the regime views its nuclear status not as a bargaining chip, but as a permanent and non-negotiable feature of its national identity.
