Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Chen Shaochun Attends Launching Ceremony of the China-Brunei Agriculture Cooperation Expert Advisory Program

On August 22, a new measure was launched to boost China-Brunei agricultural cooperation. The Senior Expert Advisory Program on Hybrid Rice Breeding and Seed Production in Brunei Darussalam officially commenced that same day. At the invitation of the Bruneian side, Ambassador H.E. Chen Shaochun, along with Bruneian government officials including Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Yang Mulia Awang Mohammad Harris Bin Brigadier General (B) Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim, as well as representatives of the Chinese expert team and Bruneian trainees, attended the launching ceremony.

In recent years, Brunei has been vigorously advancing economic diversification, with a strong commitment to agricultural development and to enhancing rice productivity and food self-sufficiency. Through expert exchanges, technical training, and trial planting of improved seeds, China and Brunei have achieved productive outcomes in bilateral cooperation. The launch of this Senior Expert Advisory Program is yet another practical manifestation of the two sides' efforts to act upon the important consensus of their leaders on deepening agricultural collaboration and promoting cooperative research on hybrid rice.

In his remarks during the exchange, Ambassador Chen noted that China, despite having less than 9% of the world's arable land, has managed to feed nearly one-fifth of the world's population, and at the same time is actively advancing international cooperation to help developing countries and friendly nations boost their agricultural development, thereby making significant contributions to upholding world food security.
