U.S., Republic of Korea Navies Undergo At-Sea Replenishment Training

U.S.-flagged chartered tanker Torm Thunder successfully completed a consolidated cargo replenishment at sea (CONSOL) Ship Qualification Training (SQT), Aug. 22-24, 2026, and is now the newest CONSOL-capable tanker in the Pacific.

CONSOL capability is defined by specially outfitted MSC tankers able to conduct underway refueling operations, allowing fleet sustainment cargo to be onloaded without returning to port.

Torm Thunder conducted the CONSOL SQT in collaboration with Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy Cheonji-class fast combat support ship Daecheong (AOE-58), demonstrating the strong partnership between the two nations.

Torm Thunder and Daecheong trained together at pier and at sea for CONSOL and underway replenishment.

The goal was to ensure operational compatibility, train crews on procedures, connect Torm Thunder’s CONSOL rigs in realistic conditions, and demonstrate crew proficiency for Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping certification.

The evolution strengthens U.S.-ROK logistics interoperability and increases the ability to sustain fleet operations.
